John Kennedy

Bio

Born in Queens, New York to an artistic family – his mother was a watercolorist painter and stained-glass artist from England – Kennedy was brought up on “unhealthy doses of Victoriana, the Pre-Raphaelites, Terry Gilliam, and Monty Python.”

Kennedy has studied at the Art Students League and Grand Central Academy, both in New York, while pursuing investigations into photography and printmaking. Currently, Kennedy is a painting/drawing studio art teacher on Long Island, New York.

Statement

“My work is illustrative and follows a narrative – but a narrative that’s been lost, forgotten, or is yet unwritten.  A forgotten, lost, unwritten story; with crisp, delicate pages like that of fallen leaves or a moth’s wings.  A closed book nesting in the shadows on a shelf within an exiled library.  These characters, these scenes, blurred by time and memory, have not had the light of day nor eyes cast on them for untold years.

Until now.”
