Daniela Astone

Bio

Daniela Astone grew upon in the sea-side town of Porto Santo Stefano, Italy.

She studied illustration at the International School of Comics in Chicago, before  working independently for several editors and in the studio of Inklink. At the age of 21, Astone started studying at The Florence Academy of Art . Astone served as the Director of the Intermediate Program at The Florence Academy for nine years (2013 -2022).

Astone’s work has been exhibited internationally and in 2016 became part of the permanent collection of  MACS, the Contemporary Art Museum in Sicily.

In 2019, together with Gaia Grazioli, she curated the Show Corpo a Corpo in the Museum of Villa Bardini in Florence, with the assistance of Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze and the art historian Carlo Sisi.

Astone is currently working in her studio in the Chianti countryside, and is studying etching part time at the Bisonte School of Printmaking in Florence.

Statement

“Yesterday’s balance was not enough for me. I look for myself in the things I live and meet, in what I do, every day I try to find my floating point. My unconscious search for contradiction makes me feel free and happily unstable. This is my “state” – and about the ‘ment,’ it is from the Latin mentior or lie. Maybe if you know me you will say exactly the opposite.”
